We went out to Freeport again yesterday and spent the day with my boyfriends family. It is amazing to see they are 5 brothers with their own personalities and stories within their family. Siblings all have a different experience in their own lives, in and out of their family dynamic. Time, age, experience, are all variables in this game of life. Our reality vs what we perceive to be true within ourselves and those around us is a challenge, and can be a little biased instead, of more objective.
We got to his brothers house around 7 p.m. and all the brothers were there except Greg, who was coming from out of town, he arrived not to long after we did. It has been 8 years since I had seen one of the brothers, and 5 years for another. Time does not standstill. There were wonderful conversations, catching up, and typical sibling ragging on one another, (men ?) and wonderful food.
I’m excited, he has 4 older brothers and they are all meeting in the Freeport area. (Two live out of town and one out of state). It does not happen very often. I hope to hear about their parents and childhood family experiences and their current ones. From being with my boyfriend, I have an idea of the amazing parents he had. I hope this puts fire under their butts to meet more often, and not just when there is an illness. They are all very smart intellectual boys, and it comes from a lineage in their family tree. The lineage is what is left behind and its nice to see how it progresses, and you have to be in the loop to see that wonder happen.
It’s the day after Christmas,it felt different this year. It was pure joy visiting with my brother last night and listening to my nephews describe all the goodies they got from Santa, and their mother and father. I feel lighter, just calm around children, they have such beautiful energy ( even if at times they can test your patients) they have a much more pure way of looking at things.
My brother and his wife always give a lot during Christmas to charity and the family. I’m picky about things I buy, I want it to be practical, functional in my world, and they always do an awesome job with their gifts. They do it with out any input.
Unfortunately my sister lives out of state now and my parents are visiting her, so I did not get to see all of my family.
To my family in Iowa and in Spain, I hope everyone is doing well and joyous in their lives. I have not been back to Iowa in many years, over 28. I was back in Spain in 2011. So much has happened in a year, and what a gap of 28 years. Lineage on both sides of my parents families, I want to know my family tree, I know a couple of people on my fathers side are doing it, not sure about my mothers side. Although I am away, and awful with correspondence, letters, emails, I think about everyone.
To all the souls who have been a part of my life, you are thought of.
Somehow on Wednesday my dog injured her right front leg, we put it into a splint and hoping in a week it will be okay. She may have to go to the vet. I think she sprained or pulled something, I’m hoping she did not brake it. She is a hundred pounds so balancing and caring that weight is a challenge for her.
I will post picture later when I have time.
Getting word of someones illness is an awkward situation for me, I never know what to say. I’m not worried about what people think my words or reaction should be, It’s a situation out of my control.
My boyfriends brother is not doing so well right now, there is a possibility of cancer. They lost their parents that way, he still has four brothers. He has two children one in high school and one in college. This is unexpected and I’m hoping that the diagnosis is positive.
The horrible school shooting of innocent children is unspeakable. Animals, children, the elderly are a no no on my list of people to harm. I am in no way advocating to hurt anyone, however, in fighting you fight people your own size, able to defend themselves.
I had a brief conversation with my brother and his wife regarding guns. It should always ignite conversation about what is going on in our country, how to improve it ( when our bill of rights come into question, write to your congressman ) . Anytime something horrible of this magnitude happens it gives government the opportunity to take more of our freedoms away, we have to think that bad things are going to happen, however we can take action to solve it in a logical way, to lower incidents or the access to them. The NRA was established for a reason, it is not a bunch of shoot em up fanatics, they stand for our freedom and our protection. My boyfriend had a great idea of arming teachers . Train teachers to use a gun,or have some form of weapon to defend themselves and their students. Our 2nd amendment in the United States Constitution is the right to bear arms and that is not negotiable. I want and I have the right to protect myself against my government, or any hostile take over. There is no discussion, guns do not kill people, people kill people.
There was a documentary done back in 2007, and then National Geographic did one in 2008, to show the consumption one human being goes through in its life time, and materials, resources needed to be sustained to provide that usage. People need to think, be aware of what they consume and the resources from which they come from, and the impact of those choices. We need to be a sustainable world.
Simply think of all the fast food chains and the food it takes for them to produce 24 /7. The cows, chickens, vegetables, dairy, trees, trucks, diesel all needed to produce all their food choices and containers. Then the method used to get rid of the containers, food , waste, most going into landfills.
Palm oil is a hot button. The Worldwatch institute ( about them) is a great place to get information around the globe. There are many places to look on the Web and investigate for yourself. You can ask Google anything, and there are many ways to ask your question. Research !
As a child we are told and live out a storyline up until about the age of 10 maybe. The same with our religion, it gets intertwined into the story. Christmas to me is way to commercialized now, they have incorporated black Thursday as an additional shopping day along with black Friday . The dots do not connect, why do we continue this crazy storyline? I question it all. Which brings to mind Edward Bernays again for his indoctrination of PR work of propaganda, consumerism. Below are snips from the Wikipedia website that crystallizes propaganda through social science.
Bernays’s public relations efforts helped to popularize Freud’s theories in the United States. Bernays also pioneered the PR industry’s use of psychology and other social sciences to design its public persuasion campaigns:
If we understand the mechanism and motives of the group mind, is it not possible to control and regiment the masses according to our will without their knowing about it? The recent practice of propaganda has proved that it is possible, at least up to a certain point and within certain limits.
Bernays refined and popularized the use of the press release, following its invention by PR man Ivy Lee, who had issued a press release after the 1906 Atlantic City train wreck. One of the most famous campaigns of Bernays was the women’s cigarette smoking campaign in 1920s. Bernays helped the smoking industry overcome one of the biggest social taboos of the time: women smoking in public. Women were only allowed to smoke in designated areas, or not at all. If caught violating this rule, women would have been arrested. Bernays staged the 1929 Easter parade in New York City, showing models holding lit Lucky Strike cigarettes, or “Torches of Freedom“. After the historical public event, women started lighting up more than ever before. It was through Bernays that women’s smoking habits started to become socially acceptable. Bernays created this event as news, which, of course, it wasn’t. Bernays convinced industries that the news, not advertising, was the best medium to carry their message to an unsuspecting public.
